Munising Trail Report 2/18

The weekend traffic is taking it’s toll on the Munising Snowmobile Trails.  The 419 connectors into Munising, Wetmore, and Christmas are in poor to fair condition.  The 419 in the hills behind Munising is very icy and rough.  The North Hiawatha section of Snowmobile Trail 7/8 is in poor to fair condition.

The Coalwood section of Trail 8 is in fair to good condition.  Groomers are out but with all the traffic and lack of fresh snow the groomed snowmobile trails around Munising are in rough shape at this time.  Weather is also supposed to warm up the next few days.

Some of the forest roads and two tracks in the Hiawatha National Forest offer very good riding.

Not much change in the weather here in Munising.  Still warming up above freezing during the day.  The snowmobile trails are in fair to good condition.  Groomers are running.  Near town the connectors are dirty and icy in the corners.  Still around two feet of snow in the woods.

Munising Trail Report 2/13

Warmed up again to the thirties during the day.  Still dropping down to the twenties at night.  The groomed snowmobile trails around Munising are in good condition with groomers running twice a day.   It’s a little snirty and icy near town and the side of the roads is a little thin.

The old logging roads and some of the forest trails are excellent.

Munising Trail Report 2/11

Temperatures have dropped to the teens and we received around four inches of new snow here in Munising.  Lake effect snow is supposed to continue till tomorrow.  The trails are in much better shape with the new snow.  The 419 connector into Wetmore is still dirty, but Trail 8 and Trail 7 are in good condition now.  Groomers are out and now have more snow to work with.

Munising Trail Report 2/9

The weatherman is calling for cold temps and snow here in Munising.  Current trail conditions are hard packed and icy.  There is still a good base but we could sure use the 4-6 inches of snow they are calling for tonight to freshen up the snowmobile trails and town.

Even though temps dropped the last couple days, the ice on Munising Bay is unsafe.  Most of the shantys are gone for now but may be able to return after this next cold snap moves through.  Definitely been a strange winter for the Upper Peninsula.

Munising Trail Report 2/5

Temps have been above freezing here in Munising the last few days.  Still going below freezing at night but we are experiencing some melting.  We still have about two feet of snow in the woods off trail.  Coalwood and Haywire sections of Trail 8 are in good condition.  Groomers are working multiple shifts.  The 422 going to Miners Castle is a little bumpy but still in good condition.

Munising Trail Report 2/2

Pretty warm weather for Feb. in Munising.  Temps have been hitting mid thirties during the day and dropping down to the twenties at night.

We have had some settling and melting but there is still lots of snow here.  The groomers are running three shifts and the groomed snowmobile trails are in good condition.

The ice conditions on Munising Bay are starting to get a little shaky.  Lots of open water around Grand Island and in the channel.  Still some diehard ice fisherman on the bay.
